MPP National Director Nick Brana arrested with Extinction Rebellion climate activists after supergluing themselves to Congress in mass civil disobedience
Washington, D.C. — Movement for a People’s Party National Director Nick Brana was arrested during a protest to block Congress and demand that they join the countries of the UK and Canada and declare a climate emergency.
Brana and 15 people affiliated with the climate action group Extinction Rebellion (XR) glued themselves to three underground tunnel entrances leading to the Capitol, blocking access to members of Congress who were heading to a regularly scheduled 6 p.m. session.
Dozens of activists from XR’s D.C. chapter marched to the Capitol chanting, singing and carrying banners with XR’s iconic logo, a large black X with a circle around it.
It is not known what charges have been leveled or when Brana and the others will be released.
Protesters rallied at Spirit of Justice Park before marching to the congressional buildings to demand that our government #TellTheTruth about the impacts and urgency of climate change and to pursue policies designed to reach zero emissions in the U.S. by 2025.
The Republican and Democratic parties have worked together for decades to prop up the fossil fuel industry from where they get the biggest haul of cash to finance their campaigns. MPP is building the corporate-free coalition that will free the country from the stranglehold these two parties have had on our elections and give us a fighting chance to save our climate from near-certain death.
The climate emergency is here now. It will continue to devastate people all over the world, affecting crop yields and causing droughts and floods leading to the mass displacement of people. Government inaction is robbing people all over the world of the human rights we claim to have at the forefront of our ideals.
