Our Coalition

The country is beyond ready for a new nationally-viable progressive party. But our movement has been divided into hundreds of organizations working independently of one another. Together, when progressives, independents, and labor come together, we do have the power, the resources, and the support to create the nationally viable alternative to the Democrats and Republicans that two-thirds of Americans are clamoring for.

Joining Forces with Allies

MPP has been on the front lines with game-changing allies as co-sponsors or endorsers of important actions aligned with our platform. We’ve driven convoys to support the Women’s March on the Pentagon and the Poor People’s Campaign, stood on the picket lines with teachers in California, and supported the National Democratic Independent Farm Workers Union’s boycott of Driscolls’ Berries, among many other actions.

Here are a few examples of when MPP has joined forces with powerful allies to create change:

Poor People's Campaign

Fifty years ago, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and many others called for a “revolution of values” in America. They invited people who had been divided to stand together against the “triplets of evil”—militarism, racism, and economic injustice—to insist that people need not die from poverty in the richest nation ever to exist. They sought to build a broad, fusion coalition that would audit America. Together, they would demand an accounting of promissory notes that had been returned marked “insufficient funds.” Today that effort is still incomplete.

The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival has developed out of years of organizing across the United States. In communities across this land, people impacted by systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, the war economy and our distorted moral narrative have said the same thing: “We want to be free! We need a Poor People’s Campaign! We need a Moral Revival to make this country great for so many for whom it has not yet been.” This call echoes the cries of the prophets throughout the ages to stand up for justice, righteousness and the dignity of all.

Women’s March on the Pentagon

The Women’s March on the Pentagon gathered nearly 2,000 people at the Pentagon in October 2018 — on the 51st anniversary of the massive 1967 Vietnam War protest outside the Pentagon — to call for an end to the bipartisan war machine. Women and men gathered to demand an end to the wars and ballooning military budgets that kill hundreds of thousands and darken our nation’s soul.

As MPP says in The People’s Platform, our country must redeploy its resources to defend the American people against the most merciless and lethal enemies to ever invade our shores: poverty, hunger and ill health.

Zero Hour

MPP endorsed and supported Zero Hour Youth Climate Lobby Day and March on July 19-21, 2018. This effort is spearheaded by 16-year-old Jamie Margolin of Seattle along with a team of other high school and college students. Youth took over Capitol Hill on July 19 to deliver to our politicians specific demands about saving our climate that are being developed in consultation with leading scientists.

The main event was a Youth Climate March July 21 on the National Mall where young people on the frontlines of the climate crisis gave speeches as a statement of their rights to a safe and livable future. People of all ages walked up Constitution Ave. as a demonstration of youth power and show how #ThisIsZeroHour will be leading the way on environmental action.

Boycott Driscoll's Berries

On September 29, 2018, MPP joined forces with the National Democratic Independent Farm Workers Union (SINDJA) on a national day of action against Driscoll’s Berries. The Driscoll’s company produces berries and pays its mostly-Latino workers slave wages, employs child labor, forces people to work 12-hour days, and sprays workers with toxic pesticides.

Hands Off Venezuela

MPP members voted to endorse the Answer Coalition’s march on March 16, 2019 to protest U.S. sanctions and the ongoing coup attempt in Venezuela. The White House has joined with Democratic Party leadership with the aim of overthrowing the government of President Nicolás Maduro and replace him with Juan Guaidó. Guaidó is a U.S.-trained operative who was unknown to the vast majority of Venezuelans before he proclaimed himself president — at Vice President Mike Pence’s urging. Although Guaidó has the backing of Trump, the CIA, and the Republican and Democratic Party leaderships alike, huge numbers of Venezuelans have marched to reject this coup and defend their independence.

On April 3 & 4, 2019, MPP joined with World Beyond War to participate in the No to NATO, Yes to Peace Festival in Washington D.C. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) came to Washington, D.C., on April 4. We participated in a peace festival to unwelcome them.
