We made history on Saturday. Hundreds of people rallied for a #PeoplesStimulus at their member of Congress’ home on July 11. Our movement led more than 30 unprecedented simultaneous actions at the homes of those who will decide if hungry families get to eat and whether they can afford a roof over their heads during this crisis.
We rolled up to Steny Hoyer’s estate in Maryland with a dozen-car caravan, we chalked the streets around Rep. Julia Brownley house in California, and we marched to Sen. Cory Bookers house in the rain in New Jersey. We completely covered Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver’s door with flyers of our demands in Texas, led a car parade to Sen. Tom Tillis house in North Carolina, and rallied at Rep. Val Demings house in Florida.
We met with Sen. Dick Durbin, Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, Rep. Marcia Fudge, and Sen. Sherrod Brown and the got the last two to commit to the People’s Stimulus. We held a widely-reported town hall with Jim McGovern in Massachusetts where he agreed to the demands. But with just two weeks till the bill passes, far too many members of Congress refused to meet with us or commit to the People’s Stimulus.
That’s why on July 25, we are going back to the homes of members of Congress, including new ones. Join us on our next National Call Thursday at 8:30 pm ET / 5:30 pm PT to celebrate the action and rally for the next.
On July 25, we will also be focusing on car caravans through cities for high visibility actions. These will let us bring our message directly to the people and provide another socially distanced option for participation.
We lit social media on fire with our photos, videos, and calls for a #PeoplesStimulus on July 11. This weekend and next we’ll build on our momentum with digital options to build up the pressure. Use our Soapboxxvideo platform to send in a short video saying why we need a People’s Stimulus and why it’s personal for you. Share it and post about the upcoming actions with our hashtag that went trending #PeoplesStimulus.
Most importantly, add your new action to the map as soon as possible so that people can sign up as we promote it. If you hosted one last weekend, we can roll over everyone who signed up for your action on July 11 so they get a notification of the new actions on the 18th and 25th.
Congratulations on a fantastic action! We made a huge splash. We even had Democratic candidates like Charles Booker sharing our action and calling for a #PeoplesStimulus. I look forward to building on our momentum on these final two Saturdays before the stimulus bill passes.
See you on the call and at the actions!
